Talks/Posters

Congress registrants are limited to one talk OR poster, but you may be a non-presenting co-author on other presentations. This rule includes those speaking in symposia or giving awards talks. Due to the complexity of scheduling more than 1,300 talks and almost 600 posters, unfortunately we cannot accommodate requests for specific days or times (for talks or posters).

Despite a greater capacity than any past meeting, talk slots filled earlier than anticipated. All those that applied to give a talk are accepted; the option to give a talk disappeared when capacity was reached. We are unfortunately not maintaining a waiting list as we actually accepted slightly more talks than we could accommodate. We apologize to those who were unsuccessful at obtaining a talk slot, but we would like to stress that the option to present a poster will remain open until the May 25 deadline. We are going to lengths to make the poster sessions as successful as possible, including implementing a poster invite system whereby, just prior to the meeting, poster presenters will also have the opportunity to invite, via an online system, several congress attendees of their choice to visit their poster.

Talk details

Oral presentations will be held (forcefully) to 14 minutes, including questions, permitting a 1 minute movement time between talks. You will be cut off if you go over time. The AV system is PC-based and will support both PowerPoint (all versions) and PDF files. Unfortunately, we can’t support Keynote presentations because Apple has yet to develop Keynote for PC, let alone a player. A PowerPoint presentation created on a MAC should be Ok, but it is strongly recommended that you test it on a PC first to ensure all the fonts, animations, images and video are as they should be. A Speaker Ready Room (Rm. 101) will be available in the conference centre to test or run-through your presentation, with technical support present. The computers in the Speaker Ready Room are of the exact same hardware and software as those being used in the session rooms.

Instructions on uploading talks have been emailed to all speakers (general sessions and society symposia only). To upload, or to replace your uploaded talk, go to: http://evolution2012.sessionupload.com/login.aspx

Posters should be a maximum of 1.2m x 1.2m (4 ft x 4 ft). Poster presenters will be assigned to one of two evening poster sessions (7:30 - 10:30 pm on Saturday, July 7 or Monday, July 9). Pushpins will be provided. Posters in session #1 should be put up on Saturday morning, and taken down on Sunday morning. Posters for session #2 should be put up on Sunday afternoon, and taken down on Tuesday morning. Both poster sessions will be held in the evening in conjunction with social mixers that include snacks, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages.
